Successful Season for McKay's Softball Finishing at 18-8
McKay's/Glovers finished up with a pretty impressive resume
on the season. They compiled a record of 13-7 in the Bishop Hill Summer Session which was good enough for a 2nd place
finish behind the Colony. McKay's broke many records on the year over in Bishop, including the most alcohol ever drank
during a single game, double header, and an entire season.
The highlight of the season was McKay's winning the 1st
Annual Aaron Glaser Memorial Tournament that was held 4th of July weekend at the Park District. McKay's won their
first two games rather easily over some local AAA talent that someday might become a part of the McKays team. In the
third game McKay's was defeated by the Colony, which put them in the losers bracket. After winning their next game,
they faced the Colony in the championship game. McKay's won the first game, but since they came from the losers
bracket they had to defeat the Colony once more to take home the championship. In the top of the 1st inning McKay's plated 8
runs, which proved to be plenty, especially behind the wheeling and dealing from Caesar on the mound. In a performance
which will be talked about for years to come Caesar held the much vaunted Colony line-up to 3 runs. Tyler Glaser
caught the final out of the game and the celebration began. The party ensued at Caesars and carried well into the
night.
McKay's Sweeps Final Two Games
McKay's Bar & Grille ended their season Friday July
23rd by sweeping Sportman's in their twilight double header in the Bishop Hill crater. McKay's didn't waste any time
in the opener by scoring 8 runs in the opening frame. By the time the 5th inning rolled around McKays had put a shalacking
on them and the game was called due to the mercy rule. Ron Werkheiser showed his dynamic pitching prowess by holding
down a potent Sportsmans line-up. Game 2 of the nite was an epic not soon to be forgotten by any mere mortal.
In a sight rarely ever witnessed, Caesar struggled to get the final out of the inning after retiring the first two batters
in order. At the end of the first inning Sportmans had plated 8 men and took a commanding lead. But that didn't
phase the man we call "53" Ceas limited them to only 2 runs the rest of the evening. With McKay's trailing by
4 going into the final frame they needed a spark to get them going. Some say it was the Old Style Lite that lit a fire
under their asses, whatever it was it worked. KV led off the inning with the most pathetic tater seen in Bishop.
Following his blast, Ronny Werk hit a 2-run dinger, and Mike Thurston followed up with a solo of his own. Chris Dooley
stepped to the plate and roped a double into the RC field gap. They gave Brien Vincent an intentional pass because seriously,
who wants to pitch to him? With runners on 1st and 2nd and the game tied Ernie "Boog" Hulstrom stepped into the right
hand batters box and dug in. It only took one pitch and the game was over. Ernie sent it over the road and McKay's
capped off their season with a walk-off HR. After the game was over a feast of mammouth proportions was prepared by
the Ladies o' McKays and Leo. Hallibut, corned beef caserole, desserts etc... were on the menu and was enjoyed
by everyone. There was also some fierce bags competition going on as well. KV and Dooley once agained proved to
be dominant defeating Ty and Caesar. It should also be noted that KV and Caesar have only lost 1 game of bags EVER.
Clean Sweep for McKays In Bishop
McKays put on their hitting shoes on a cool and dreary Thursday nite and managed
to wallop the Filling Station, beating them like Tyler beats his meat, early and often. So many exciting things
happened in these games I don't think I could list them all, so I'll just try and hit the main points. McKays started
the night off great by scoring 5 runs in the first inning capitalizing on a few mental miscues by FS and didn't look
back from there. McKays, inspired by the elbow compression brace on Nathan Glaser's right elbow continued to plate
runs on their way to a 10 run rule in the opener of the night-cap.
McKays picked up where they left off in game one by scoring 9 runs
in the first inning of the second game of the twinbill. For the first time all year long McKays hit their homerun limit,
led by Mike "The Impaler" Thurston who hit a cornacopia of homeruns that wooed the 17 fans in attendance.
Immediately after the game there were reports that leaked to the Galva News from Balco CEO Victor Conti
that Thurston's trainer, who also happens to be Barry Bonds personal trainer, gave Thurston steroids and elephant tranquilizers.
Thurston denied the reports and is now only speaking through a translator that only speaks Swahili to confuse the press.
Mr. elbow brace Nathan Glaser also cranked his first homerun of the year off first time starter Lucas Wigant. However,
Wigant did record a strikeout on the night fanning Chris Dooley, who also happened to drop an easy can of corn in left field
that Stevie Wonder could have caught barehanded. FS never had a chance in either game, especially with Ceasar Interial
toeing the rubber. He pitched a brilliant two games fanning numerous batters on the nite. With these
two "W's" McKays is now 7-3 on the year. After the game GM Victor Interial said he is willing to make a move before
the trading deadline. "We could use another bat and another middle infielder before the deadline," exclaimed Interial. McKays
have one more league doubleheader before they head into the weekend for the 4th of July tournament.
